Roleplay Standards

The standard of roleplay we expect from all players on Next RP.

Updated June 2026

Next RP is a serious roleplay server. We expect players to commit to their characters and the story. These standards exist to protect the quality of everyone's experience.

Core Principles

1

Stay In Character

Remain in character at all times unless using designated OOC channels. Breaking character for non-emergency reasons disrupts the immersion for other players.
2

Prioritise Story Over Winning

Roleplay is collaborative storytelling, not a competition. Prioritise creating a good narrative over "winning" an encounter. Sometimes losing is the better story.
3

Realistic Character Behaviour

Your character should react as a real person would. Fear pain, respect authority (or not, consistently), have motivations, and make decisions that make sense for who they are.

Combat Roleplay

Combat situations require heightened awareness of these standards. Failing to meet them in high-stakes situations is one of the most common causes of rule violations.

4

Initiation Before Combat

All hostile scenarios must have clear roleplay initiation before any violence occurs. Simply shooting someone without prior interaction is RDM.
5

Surrender & Compliance

When clearly outgunned or under lawful arrest with no reasonable escape, comply. Characters must value their life. Charging armed officers empty-handed is not realistic RP.

Passive RP

Not every interaction needs to be a criminal enterprise or police chase. Some of the best RP happens in mundane settings — at a restaurant, in a shop, or just living life as a civilian. This is encouraged and celebrated.

Civilian RP Is Valued
Running a business, performing as a musician, or simply being a good neighbour contributes to the server's economy and atmosphere. Passive RP players are as vital as any other.

OOC Usage

Out-of-character (OOC) chat exists for genuine technical issues only. Use /ooc only when there is a real-world issue (game crash, client bug, etc.). Do not use OOC to complain about RP situations, discuss rules, or argue — do that in Discord.
